I make knit accessories for a living, and I have a LOT of leftover yarn. I am always trying to come up with creative and beautiful ways to use it up before the scrap yarn basket overtakes the whole room. This hat was born first from the need to put these fun colors together, and second from my attempt at creating the neat little ridges that surface between the colorwork dots and purl bumps. I love the slightly plaid quality of the pattern. It is a FUN hat to knit- with nearly every row changing as you go. It’s also an easy pattern once you get going, and I find it so satisfying to use up all the yarn I can.
This can be a great stash busting pattern, using less than 12 yards of the 4 middle colors in the stripes. There are so many colorful outcomes possible. The pattern uses Super Bulky yarn. I have written the pattern for 3 sizes: child, adult m/l, and adult l/xl. Shown in a variety of super bulky yarns.
Uses US 11.0 - 8.0mm and US 13.0 - 9.0mm needles.
