"I'm Christen Pentek (they/them), the sole human powering Social Fabric Research. My work encourages and embodies sustainable community, soil-to-soil production, consumption, and composting in our local landscape. I work predominantly with wools, dyes, and fibers grown by shepherds locally in our Three Rivers Fibershed. This work restores healthy ecological relationships with the land. In stewardship, I focus on carbon negative threads and textiles that work for rugged and fun outdoor adventures.
This praxis uplifts four basic fabric principles: Color | Antiracism and anti-oppression, Texture | Geographically based, Structure | Practical implementation and land stewardship, and Twist | Prepared for complexity with flexibility.
I've been knitting for about 30 years now (Grandma taught me young!) and spinning for about 15 years. I enjoy the subtle variation and intentional process of connecting with the land and fibers."
