The super bulky version of this pattern has been out for a few years. Not long after I wrote it up, I started sketching up what it could look like if I zoomed out a bit and made the pattern fit on a bulky weight hat. I’ve had this sketch in my book for years and just finally knit up the first sample this spring. I absolutely love it!
The patterns are named after an actual giant magnetic rock here in NE Minnesota. You can hike to this rock off the Gunflint Trail.
This pattern is written for two cast on sizes: adult s/m, adult l-xxl. This hat is knit in the round from the bottom up using circular needles. The pattern calls for 2 or 3 contrasting colors. Shown in Malabrigo Chunky. Bulky yarn can vary quite a bit, so be sure to gauge swatch part of the colorwork section and adjust needle size as needed to meet gauge.
There are coordinating hat and cowl patterns available separately as well.
Uses US 8 - 5.0mm and US 10.5 - 6.5mm 16" circular needles and US 10.5 - 6.5mm double point needles
