The Gunflint Trail is a rustic 60-mile road in far NE Minnesota that traverses from near Lake Superior towards Canada and the Boundary Waters Wilderness through rugged boreal forest. Abundant wildlife, thick forest, rocky cliffs, swamps, rivers, and lakes make this one of my favorite drives in the US. Up here, near the trail, our winters are cold and deep, and we need good thick gear. A hardy cowl is a must.
This shape cowl is my go-to, tall enough to cover the gap between a hat and coat, and sturdy enough to stay put without much fuss. Knit in a pattern that matches my Gunflint Trail Hat pattern, I hope you find it as useful as I do.
The pattern is written in one size, but instructions for easily adapting it are included. The entire project is knit in the round. There are 4 colors required in the colorwork section.
Uses US 13 - 9.0mm and US 15 - 10.0mm needles.
