NRK Local Yarn Store Visits, Sugar River Yarns, Mt. Horeb, WI, April 10, 2026

Sugar River Yarns, 109 E. Main St, Mt. Horeb, WI 53572.

On our way back from our trip to Peoria, we ended up stopping in Madison, WI for a couple more nights.  We were getting our first taste of spring, and were not ready to go back to the snow yet.  We had lived in the Madison area for several years, and still love it all so much.  One of our favorite towns to visit was Mt. Horeb, WI.  This is actually the troll capital of the world, and such a fun, little town.  Of course, while we were here, we had to check out their local yarn shop.

This shop is less than half hour from Madison, WI.  We had set up our camper in Deforest, WI and it was such a beautiful drive to the shop.  If you've ever been to southern Wisconsin, you know the rolling hills, with farmhouses and barns in every direction you look.  We have been all over the country, and there is something that feels so unique to this area.  At times, it still feels like times gone by, and it is so comforting for us.

The building the yarn shop is in was so beautiful, the shop was so spacious... they had such a unique selection beautifully arranged. The staff was fun! The samples made Jamie want to knit. Such a dream. We could have spent all day here. Wow!

Jamie bought some earrings from the artist working next door and some tea and a mug from the tea shop shop across the street. We also browsed the incredible antique shop in town, had an amazing meal at Buck and Honey's around the corner, and stopped for ice cream before we left town, too. Perfect day! Definitely worth the road trip, friends!

Sugar River Yarns is a perfect little shop, and such an easy drive from the Madison area.  Don't leave this shop or the town off of your list of places to visit if you are in the area.  As a bonus, Mt. Horeb is home to the Duluth Trading Company Headquarters, and their flagship store in town is huge.

Thanks for following along on all of our adventures, and we cannot wait to make more memories and share them with you all.

Jamie and Theo
