Fiber Universe, Peoria, IL
When we travel, we always try and find the local yarn shops. On our visit to Peoria, we were able to stop into a place we had never been. When we lived in Peoria, Jamie had not found her love for all things yarn, so this wouldn't have ever been on our minds.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, we stopped into this beautiful yarn shop. The shop is located in an older building that hosts a few other retail/office spaces. It is an absolutely magnificent setting for this shop. The wood floors and painted exposed beam ceiling makes the spot feel special as well. There was a very comfortable seating area for gathering and community.
We loved chatting with them, and found some fun yarns to add to Jamie's personal stash. The very first yarn Jamie picked up when we walked in was green, dyed right in central Illinois and had the most funny name: Frogs in a Blender, by All The Colors. Jamie got some bright chartruese Fyberspates Cumulus Baby Suri Alpaca Silk to go with it. Jamie sees a light little loose gauge shawl coming from it.
Jamie also grabbed a skein of Knitted Wit, dk in the colorway A Gathering of Stitches. Knitted Wit was the second "fancy" yarn Jamie ever knit with. When Ben was in kindergarten, Jamie made him a hat with one of their fun colorways.
Fiber Universe is definitely a great yarn shop to visit if you are in the Peoria, IL area.
